On V6 more than one, two knock sensors at the top of the block in the valley between the cylinder heads is under the
Intake Manifold. Starting with the engine cover and air filter-housing, then the fuel rail/fuel injector assembly, then the intake manifold. Unattach the electrical connector to the knock sensor using the wire retention rollers and squeezer body which holds them in place and pulling out the sensor retaining bolt then removing the sensor. Installation is the opposite of removal, and the mounting bolt of the knock sensor is to be tightened to the correct specified torque, and excessive tightening may control the operation of the knock sensors, and the turbo capability of the spark control PCM. In all four-cylinder models, the knock sensor is located on the left hand side of the engine block, just above it, but a bit in front of the starter solenoid. To install the knock sensor, raise the vehicle on jackstands, take away the supercharger, break-off the electrical connector to the knock sensor, remove the mounting bolt of the knock sensor and the knock sensor. Like the V6 models, mounting is the same in reverse as unmounting, and the torque requirements of the mounting bolt should be observed to ensure the proper operation of the knock sensor and PCM.
