Mercedes-Benz C230 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the oil pan in the V6 engines on Mercedes-Benz C230?
    A:
First unscrew the cable on the negative lower oil pan of the battery, then take out the engine cover and MAF/IAT sensor with its intake tube. The second one is to remove the engine oil dipstick and the bolt that holds the oil dipstick tube to the top / back of the engine and pulls the tube upwards a notch higher. Lift the front of the car and place it firmly on jackstands with the parking brake engaged and taking care to block the rear tires. On those models produced in 2005 or earlier, delete the front suspension subframe. Empty the engine oil and get the oil filter out. In 2006 and later model, loosen the bolt fastening the power steering hose and electrical harness to the oil pan. Next, be sure to take off the oil pan mounting bolts along with the front engine mount bolt. Be cautious not to pry when taking the oil pan off the block, otherwise use a soft-face hammer to break the seal in the gasket and a plastic wedge pry tool to unattach the bottom pan. Use a hoist to lift the engine relative to the floor by enough of a distance that the oil pan can be removed with the pan pointing to the rear. To replace the lower pan, repeat the same procedure as above to disblind and replace the oil sensor in the rear of the upper pan and disconnect and remove the oil sensor fluid lines and oil sensor banjo bolts at the bracket also make sure that the packet is attached at the mount flange on the oil pan. with automatic transmission only, the transmission fluid lines and banjo bolts are unbolted and removed at the oil pan mounting flange as well as the oil sensor fluid lines. Take off the tube holding the oil dipstick out of the upper oil pan and hold the engine up by installing an engine support fixture. Using a transmission jack, reduce the height of the front suspension subframe so that there is room to remove the upper oil pan, then unscrew the Torx bolts holding the upper oil pan to the engine, recording the various bolt lengths and sizes so they can be reinstalled. To install, check the block distortion of the oil pan flange; clean the pan and the old sealant and gasket material off the mating surfaces, and clear the bolt holes in the block. After applying a bead 2 mm of RTV sealant around the pan rail with the bolt holes, mounting bolts on the oil pan should be installed in a criss cross pattern and screwed to the appropriate torque. Lastly refill the engine with oil, change the filter, restart the engine until the automobile reaches the normal operation temperature and inspect the engine, and put oil in it, not enough, not too much.
