The receiver/drier should be replaced whenever the compressor is replaced. Begin by having the air conditioning system refrigerant discharged and recycled by a technician. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the drivebelt and the air cleaner intake tube mounted above the compressor. Disconnect the compressor clutch wiring harness, along with the refrigerant lines from the compressor, ensuring to plug the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture entry. Unbolt the compressor from the mounting bracket and remove it from the vehicle. The clutch may need to be transferred from the old compressor to the new unit. Add the proper amount of refrigerant oil to the new compressor by draining the oil from the old compressor through the suction fitting and measuring it in cubic centimeters, draining any new oil from the new compressor, and then adding an amount of clean, new oil equal to the drained amount plus an additional 20 cc. Installation is the reverse of removal, using new O-rings where the lines attach to the compressor. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by a technician.
