Mercedes-Benz C320 Coolant Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the coolant reservoir and radiator on Mercedes-Benz C320?
    A:
The coolant reservoir is fixed on the right side of engine compartment. To do so, disconnect the auxiliary coolant pump and electrical wiring at the front of the reservoir connected with the sensor at the bottom of the reservoir. We want to take the hoses out, remove the reservoir retaining nut, unlatchest the grommet at the bottom and pull the reservoir out. Never spill coolant on painted surfaces, wash it up immediately with a lot of soapy water then rinse thoroughly. Pour the coolant into a container and then wash the reservoir both inside and outside with a household bottle brush checking his or her cracks and chafing. When broken or too covered with dirt to read the water level, change. It is installed in reverse sequence of removal. Unplug the cable of the negative post of the battery, disassemble the fan and the shroud. Evaporate cooling system, reusing and saving coolant in decent condition. Unless it has automatic gear conversion, disconnect the cooler lines with the radiator and install a drip pan to receive leaking juice. Remove the hoses, scrape the surrounding groove of the hose clip and pick the element that looks like a metal tip out of the fitting. Unscrew clips securing the radiator and air conditioning condenser, with great care not to bend the radiator upward or backwards, ensuring that it and the condenser do not touch each other. Check the radiator whether it has leaks and damages, otherwise repair it by employing an expert. Use a garden hose to spray and fill the radiator with clean water prior to replacement. Unless deteriorated look at the radiator mounts and change them where needed. The opposite of removal is installation: in addition, it is necessary to install new O-rings on the radiator hoses, the clips on the transmission fluid cooler hose must be firmly fitted in. Install the radiator down into the mounts until it clips into position, fill the cooling system, and bleed it, then start the engine and verify that it is not leaking and, finally, wait until it reaches normal operating temperature. With the engine cooled, recheck coolant level and add where required, recheck automatic transmission fluid and add where necessary.
