Open the hood to the normal position and draw a mark around both lower latches for alignment before detaching the latch retaining bolts from the radiator support, marking the latch position as you remove the latches; if working on the passenger-side latch, disconnect its electrical connector. Disengage the hood release cable from the latches, then mark the position of the safety catch on the hood and remove its mounting bolts. For the cable, disconnect it from the latch assembly and remove the lower left cover from the instrument panel. In the left rear corner of the engine compartment, detach the fuse and relay box without disconnecting any electrical connectors. Attach a piece of stiff wire to the end of the cable, trace it back to the firewall, and detach all cable retaining clips, noting the two sections with a connector at the left front corner of the engine compartment. In the passenger compartment, disconnect the cable from the hood release lever and pull the old cable into the compartment until the stiff wire is visible. Remove the old grommet from the cable hole in the firewall, ensuring the new cable has a grommet, then detach the old cable from the wire and attach the new one. From the engine compartment side, pull the wire through the cable hole, and during installation, push the grommet into place from the passenger compartment, ensuring it is fully seated in the firewall hole.
