The EGA valve is on the intake manifold, adjacent to the air cleaner and problems with the emissions system usually originate in a stuck or brooded EGA valve. In order to perform this check, a cold engine must be temperature lowered to avoid burns, so that a vacuum pump may be connected on the valve, and the vacuum applied whilst watching the diaphragm rod through the valve slot; the EGR shaft in the valve should move with the application of the vacuum. When the diaphragm is immobile one should change correspondingly the EGA valve, and in case of doubt concerning the quality of the old valve compare its free movement with the behavior of a new valve.
