The jump of knocking, or smoking, can be located without dismantling the engine by driving at a hard idle, and relaxing or slackening each injector union successively; the jump to be given up as soon as the union containing the defective injector is loosened. Especially during removal one should ensure that dirt does not pass through the injectors or fuel piping and also should only make sure not to drop the injectors or break off the ends of the needles. The battery negative could be better reached by disconnection andremoval of the inlet manifold. Clean off bottom around injector and pipe union nuts and then slacken clips and bring bleed hose out of injector. pad area round injector union with absorbent rags, empty the pipe unions and harden the union nut connecting high-pressure pipe to injector and injection pump, holding the adapter together by means of a spanner. After disconnection of injector pipes, seal injector and pipe unions to avoid dirt infiltration, loosen injector with deep socket or box spanner then retrieve washer in its orientation. To refit, install a new washer over the cylinder head, screw the injector into place and tighten it to the advised torque. Reconnect the bleed hoses, lock tight the union nuts, refit the injector pipes and lock the clips. At last, reconnect the inlet manifold, put back the battery negative line, and verify the operation of the engine.
