1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E Air Filter Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and refit of the Air Filter and Air Filter Box in the Carburettor fuel system on 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E?
A: To take the components out, first remove the ducting that connects the air cleaner to the front of the engine bay and then the ducting that joins the bottom of the inlet air pre-heating flap valve. In models equipped with a Stromberg carburettor, unscrew the clips and strip away the ducting between the air cleaner and carburettor and in models fitted with a Pierburg carburettor, unscrew the nut holding the inlet ducting in place on the camshaft cover. Then unclip the crankcase ventilation hose off the port on the bottom half of the air cleaner. Next replace the air cleaner cover by unlocking the nuts, clicking off the clips, and take the filter element out. Then remove the nuts or securing screws and remove the lower part of the air cleaner, being careful not to lose the rubber seal on those models of Pierburg carburette. To take off the lower part of the clips and to install them in other later Stromberg carburettors with air cleaners, which have external clip fastenings, for Unscrewing the nuts, first unscrew the bottom part of the clips, and replace the bottom part of the clips. Refitting is done by undoing the debounding procedures; positioning the air filter element into correct position, as per the markings on the upper surface and joining all fixings to required torque.
