In the case of turbo-diesel engines, forego the unscrewing and removal of securing nuts on Air cleaner cover and then raise the cover in addition to the packing material but avoid exposure to dirt through removal of the inlet orifice to air flow meter and turbocharger. Then take off the filter element and sweep out all the dirt or debris inside the air cleaner, making sure that nothing drops into the air cleaner inlet. Insert another filter element based on the direction marking on its edge, reconnect the packing insulation and securing cover and tighten the retaining nuts securely. On normally-aspirated engines, loosen the hose clip, remove the ducting off the front of the air cleaner, and as required unclog the small hose to the air cleaner cover. Flip the spring catches to unfold the air cleaner cover and pull out the filter element in it. Clean inside air cleaner of all dirt and debris, then insert a new air cleaner filter element in the air cleaner cover making sure that notches and folds are turned inwards and seal on the cover is firmly pressed in the channel that follows around outside of the complete edge. Install the filter element inside the cover facing the permanent part of the air cleaner and clamp it with the spring clips. Lastly, re-fit the ducting to the front end of the air cleaner cover so that the orientation arrow on the ducting is facing the engine and place the hose clip in securely.
