- Q: How to replace the front headlamp and other related car bulbs on Mercedes-Benz 190E?A:To replace the headlamp, spring up the two lamp unit cover clips, tip the cover back, and lift it off. Disconnect the wiring plug and release the bulb retaining clip by squeezing the clip arms together and swinging them outward, then withdraw the bulb from the lamp unit, taking care not to touch the glass. Refitting is done in reverse order, ensuring the tags on the bulb plate engage with the recesses in the lamp unit. For the sidelamp, remove the headlamp unit cover, pull out the sidelamp bulbholder located beneath the headlamp bulb, and remove the bulb by turning it slightly anti-clockwise, with refitting following the reverse sequence. For the foglamp, remove the headlamp unit cover, disconnect the bulb electrical lead at the connector, compress the retaining clip arms and swing the clip outwards, then withdraw the bulb from the lamp unit, taking care not to touch the glass and wiping it with a rag moistened with methylated spirit if necessary, with refitting done in reverse order. When working on the front direction indicator, if accessing the right-hand bulb, disconnect the wiring on the washer reservoir level sensor, unscrew the large plastic cap nut, and move the reservoir slightly for access. Disconnect the wiring at the bulbholder, turn the holder slightly anti-clockwise to remove it, and then turn the bulb slightly anti-clockwise to remove it from the holder, with refitting in reverse order. For the front direction indicator side repeater, carefully prise the side repeater lens unit out of the body side panel using a screwdriver, withdraw the bulb holder from the lens unit, and remove the bulb from the holder, with refitting in reverse order. To access the rear lamp cluster bulbs, turn the two lock catches inside the luggage compartment as far as they will go to the left and withdraw the bulb carrier from the lamp unit, then remove the relevant bulb by turning it anti-clockwise slightly, with refitting in reverse order. For the number plate lamp, undo the two retaining bolts to withdraw the lens unit, spread the contacts, and remove the festoon type bulb, with refitting in reverse order.
