Block the rear wheels, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Attempt to turn the front wheel by hand alternately in opposite directions; if any play is evident, check each tie rod end to determine which one is worn. Remove the wheel, then take out the cotter pin and nut. Use a suitable separator tool to disconnect the tie rod end from the steering arm. Loosen the clamp bolt and remove the tie rod end, marking its position with white paint or noting the exact number of turns necessary for removal. Screw the new tie rod end into the marked or noted position and tighten the clamp bolt. Install the tie rod end on the steering arm, tighten the nut, and install a new cotter pin. Finally, have the front wheel alignment checked by a dealer or properly equipped shop.
