Mercedes-Benz C320 Valve Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the valve cover in the Four-cylinder engines on Mercedes-Benz C320?
    A:
People who want to remove the valve cover should start by disconnecting the battery negative terminal cable. Then take the engine cover and attach it to the engine; this has bolts on it which are glued to the engine studs; hence it can be taken off by pulling it. Then remove the ignition coils, spark plugs, then remove the PCV hose out of the grommet area on the valve cover. Unscrew the electrical connector in the camshaft position sensor, loosen the mounting bolts on the valve cover, strip them one at a time, then pull them out. When the valve cover from a cylinder becomes stuck to the Cylinder Head, loosen it by block of wood and hammer. To install, be sure that the surfaces at which these two sets of cylinder heads and valve covers mate are entirely clean. Test the rubber gaskets; they can be reused, in case they was in good condition and no oil was leaking out. Clean mounting bolt threads (or die where applicable) with a die and clean threaded holes in heads with a tap. Install the valve cover and attach the bolts in a series of steps, in the correct order and to the desired torque. Lastly close the installation by doing so in reverse, starting the engine and checking the oil leakages closely.
