Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. On some models, it may be necessary to lower the exhaust pipe for clearance, supporting it on a jackstand. Unhook the return spring, then unscrew the adjusting bolt completely and release the intermediate lever from the underbody and adjusting bracket. For the front cable, remove the cotter pin and the clevis pin securing the front cable to the intermediate lever. Pry off the spring clip securing the cable guide to the crossmember behind the transmission. Inside the vehicle, remove the trim panel for access to the cable, disconnect the inner cable from the pedal or lever, pry out the spring clip, and disconnect the outer cable. Pull the cable through the rubber grommet from under the car. Installation is the reverse of removal, adjusting the parking brake afterward. For the rear cables, disconnect the equalizer from both rear cables, pry off the spring clips, and remove the cables from the underbody brackets. Remove the parking brake shoe assemblies, take out the retaining bolts from the axleshaft housing, and withdraw the cables. Installation is the reverse of removal, and after installing the shoes, adjust the parking brake.
