How to remove and install the rear lift support strut on 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300TD?

Unhook the negative battery cable to avoid flow of power. Unload the tailgate, dismount the rear compartment light, and the rear roof panel. Uphold the tailgate, detach the strut keeping clip and cut out the pin. Fit the new strut, fit it and replace the roof panel and light.
