1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E Valve Cover Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and refit the valve cover for Diesel engine on 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E?
A: On the way to removing the camshaft cover, disconnect the battery negative lead before you raise the bonnet completely. In Turbo style engines, open up the turbocharger-to-inlet manifold air trunking to ensure sufficient space to pull out the camshaft cover. Then remove the breather (breather-hose) off the cover and, optionally, the throttle/kickdown cable, operating lever, but be sure to mark the orientation before loosening the adjuster bolt. Unscrew the fastening bolts attaching the camshaft cover, and take out any washers as required. Gently rock the cylinder head cover or with a soft-faced mallet if sticky, then lift the cover off, and retrieve the gasket. To refit, inspect the gasket and renew, where necessary. Insert the gasket into the grooves around the camshaft cover and place the cover onto the cylinder head, making sure that the gasket is properly positioned prior to reconnecting the securing bolts. Tighten the bolts to the required torque, reattach the breather hose, reconnect the turbocharger-to-inlet manifold trunking where fitted, and lastly fetch the battery negative before replacing the bonnet.
