Mercedes-Benz 190E Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front and rear Crankshaft Seal in the Four-cylinder petrol engine on Mercedes-Benz 190E?
    A:
Do not install the neoprosthetic, first slide off the crankshaft neoprosthetic pulley/vibration damper and hub, set the depth of the oil seal installed in it, and then mark the depth and record. Pull the oil seal out of the housing with some hooked tool, or cut a small opening in the oil seal with a drill bit, then eat a self-tapping screw and take it off with a pliers. Inspect the spacer cushion at the crankshaft (front end) on the vibrator head, either changing it or lightly levering it in place should it be worn or marked up. Clean the crankshaft spacer ring and oil seal housing and put the new oil seal into the housing (open end first) to the specified depth with a suitable tube or socket taking care to avoid damaging the oil seal with thin plastic orostape at the front of the spacer ring. Take off the plastic or tape where needed and re-fit the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper and hub. With the rear oil seal, the Flywheel / driveplate should be removed, then a look into the contact surface of the oil seal on the crankshaft to see whether it has been deteriorated; in case excess damage is observed then the crankshaft should be substituted. Rinse the oil seal housing and contact surface on the flange of the crankshaft with clean engine oil, drape the new oil seal in clean engine oil, and push it into the housing (open end first) to the indicated depth using an appropriate tube or socket making sure it fits at right angles to the crankshaft flange to achieve proper sealing. Unscrew any protective tape or plastic off crankshaft as needed and re-screw flywheel/driveplate.
