  • Q: What are the necessary steps and precautions for changing engine oil and the oil filter on Mercedes-Benz 190E?
    A:
    Refitting will require a new oil filter housing cover O-ring and at least a new oil return pipe O-ring (where needed), and a new oil drain plug sealing ring. Preventive maintenance particularly includes regular oil and filter changes where old engine oil is contaminated and becomes diluted, which causes earlier wearing on the engine. You should prepare spill soaked rags and newspapers as well as all central tools and materials beforehand. Ideally, engine oil could be hot to ensure it will drain well but do not touch hot parts. Lift the car up so that it is level and remove splash guard when not needed. Find the oil filter housing on the far left hand rear of the engine and place a rag on the bottom to be used to collect spills. Take the dipstick out and unscrew the oil filler lid, pour in the right type and grade of oil, half the required amount first, and then further till the dipstick hits the upper mark. On the engine, ensure that no leaks are around the oil filter housing and sump drain plug and an indicator that the oil pressure will take some time. When several minutes elapse, turn the engine off, allow the oil to clear and re-check the dipstick level, then add extra oil as required. What is still needed (when necessary) is that the engine undershield be refitted and the used engine oil disposed of safely.
