Mercedes-Benz 300TD Air Filter Box Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install air filter boxes for oil bath-type and dry-type filters on Mercedes-Benz 300TD?
    A:
When servicing the oil bath-type air filter, it is necessary to loosen the hose clamp first and then disconnect the air filter top with the connector hose. Then carefully dismount the nut holding the vibration mount to the fender inner panel and carefully lift out the housing assembly in the engine compartment and on re-mounting, put the pieces back together the same way they were removed. With the dry-type air filter, you can start by unscrewing the top nut to remove the air filter cover and a filter element. Uncoupling the intake hose, and bubbling out the turbocharger hose, when present. Take the three nuts in the housing and raise the housing off of the engine. Next, unscrew the three bolts to pivot up the vibration mount off the manifold, remembering that the bottom vibration mount bolt has a socket on an extension. When using turbocharged models, do not connect the oil pipe when process is required. Last of all is to reinstall and to remove all the steps as you went to oil the intake manifold sealing ring with clean engine oil.
