- Q: How to remove and install the hood release cable on Mercedes-Benz 300TD?A:To release the hood release cable, remove the lower trim panel. Unscrew the hood release lever around the outer side panel and unscrew the cable, then remember that the hood release lever on the upper will be available after the under dash panel is removed. This is done in the engine compartment by pulling out the cable by a bracket and plastic straps that are anchored to the engine compartment and body and then removing the first by unscrewing one at the end of the clip that is closest to the lock using a small screwdriver to push the clip off. Unplug the cable of the lock associated with it by loosening locknuts and forcing the pin out of the clip, but leave the support locknuts of the hood release cable unattached. Fix a cam or fine wire to one end of the cable and draw the wire through to the passenger cabin. Installation The installation process is the opposite of removal (which occurs before the string or the wire is linked to the new cable and pulled). Lastly, (after shortening the cable if needed) adjust the cable at the locknuts to ensure no free-play exists.
