A number of auxiliary parts peculiar to these types of engines have to be lifted away to expose the crankshaft, piston/connecting-rods, and bearings. These parts consist of the upper oil pan, oil pump and chain assembly, vacuum pump, fuel injection timing device and intermediate shaft assembly and timing chain rails. Once the position of the front balancer has been marked, it must be taken off with an instrument known as a puller. Then, those nuts and Allen head screws holding the upper oil pan to the cylinder block can be removed and that upper oil pan can be removed off the engine. The strain spring of the oil pump should be swung clear, and oil pump sprocket bolt taken off. The sprocket can be removed off the shaft using two screwdrivers and the front oil seal retainer can be unbolted and removed to allow the oil pump chain to be cleared. The retaining bolts can then be removed without lifting up the oil pump, the oil pump O-ring should be examined whether it has been damaged, and it can be changed. Vacuum pump could be reached by means of dismounting the retaining bolts. In the case of the fuel injection timing device.- the timing device wheel must be locked so it cannot turn during the removal of the intermediate shaft nut. Small screwdrivers may also be used to hold the timing chain out of the way so that the timing device wheel can be removed, but it is important to ensure that the screwdriver is held firmly to prevent it falling. The spacer and washer may be shifted off the shaft, and the intermediate shaft with the bearing bushing mounted at the rear of the housing may be removed. Timing chain tensioner and chain retainer can be dismantled or removed out of the housing and timing chain rails can be removed taking the retaining bolts and bearing bolt pins out by either slide hammer tool or by making fabricated tool by means of bolt, washers and socket or tube. An upper rail pin may be lifted out of the housing, and then the pivot bolt, rail pin and the rail may be removed. Lastly, the TDC sensor and closing plug are to be pulled out and the inner and outer slide rails can be pulled out.
