Mercedes-Benz C240 Air Filter

The Mercedes-Benz C240 Air Filter is designed to defend the engine against dust and debris before they can reach the combustion chambers and to save power and reduce fuel consumption. A large volume of pollutants including sand, pollen, and exhaust grit has to be filtered out during every gallon of gasoline consumed by the engine, as it inhales approximately 10,000 gallons of air. The filter has fine pleated paper media that are capable of capturing particles as small as five microns, or less than ten percent of the width of a human hair, yet allowing clean air to pass freely to the throttle body. As it gathers dirt, airflow is reduced and acceleration or mileage may become compromised, thus it is advisable that the Air Filter be changed after some time. Past gasoline models that utilized carburetors applied a round top-mounted filter element; contemporary fuel-injected systems, such as that in the C240, have a flat panel within an air box, which is sealed and mounted on the intake duct. Both styles have the same mission; however, the panel design saves space under the hood and directs the air in a more detailed manner. There are two primary material methods, including one made of dry pleated paper, which is applied in most Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars, and another made of oiled cotton gauze, which is applied in a performance setup, but the dry method is preferred because it is cheap and easy to maintain. In your Mercedes-Benz, you have an Air Filter that can be installed by popping the clips, removing the cover, removing leaves, and ensuring the fresh element is firmly seated so that each inhalation the engine makes goes through the filter. The Air Filter replacement is timely, and your Mercedes-Benz is purring along.

Mercedes-Benz C240 Air Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the air filter on Mercedes-Benz C240?
    A:
For V6 models with a remote air filter housing, begin by loosening the connecting duct hose clamp. Next, release the tabs or remove the fasteners that secure the two halves of the air cleaner housing, then separate the cover halves and remove the air filter element. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For vehicles with an integral engine cover/air filter housing, first remove the front engine cover by pulling up the front edge to disengage the front retaining clips and locator pin, then pull the cover forward to disengage the two rear retaining clips. After that, remove the fresh air intake ducts by pulling them off the air filter housing, then lift the engine cover/air filter housing to disengage it from the mounting grommets. Remove the fasteners securing the two filter element covers on the air cleaner housing and take out the air filter element. For four-cylinder models, specifically the 2002 models, the air filter housing is located at the front of the engine compartment, being long and narrow to fit transversely in front of the engine. Start by loosening the air intake duct hose clamp and disconnecting the duct, then release the tabs or remove the fasteners that secure the two halves of the air cleaner housing, separate the cover halves, and remove the air filter element. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2003 through 2005 models, remove the fasteners that secure the top of the air cleaner housing, separate the cover, and remove the air filter element, with installation again being the reverse of removal.
