In order to remove the
Oil Pan, 1) Turn the engine to TDC with the number 1 piston and align similar marks on the chain to the paint mark on the oil pump gear. The next thing to do is to reach up on the left side of the chain and pull toward the tensioner on the seal of the oil pump chain until you can release the chain off the oil pump sprocket. After taking out the oil pump pick-up tube in the pump and the main bearing cap bolt, then the bolts holding the oil pump housing to the bottom of the engine block. In models with a type 271 engine beginning in 2003, the oil pump is now attached to the back side of the balance-shaft assembly, which does not have to be removed. To remove the drive gear remove the balance shaft hex part by holding the wrench in grip when unbolstering the oil pump drive gear. Unfasten the bolts fixing the pump housing to the balance shaft assembly, then one of which is not sure to reach without removing the drive gear of the oil pump. Gently press the pivot of the oil pump upward to the extent that the dowel pins on the engine block are cleared and then pull the pump out. To install the pump, prime the pump with petroleum jelly, assemble the oil pump, tighten all fasteners through to a predefined torque. On type 111 engines make sure that the paint marks are aligned; push back the chain tensioner and, with care, pull the chain over the oil pump drive sprocket. Lastly, put the engine back on the drip, load it with oil, install the filter, and crank the engine to normal operating temperature, and test for leaks.
