How to remove and install the voltage regulators on the alternator on Mercedes-Benz C230?

Remove the alternator and the voltage regulator cover bolts, which may require detaching a collar nut, a nut, and a retaining bolt depending on the cover type. After removing the cover, detach the voltage regulator/brush holder from the alternator by removing the regulator mounting bolts. Measure the length of the alternator and the brushes, comparing your measurement to the specified minimum length; if the brushes are too short, replace the voltage regulator. To hold the brushes in the retracted position for installation, push them in completely and pull back on the plastic cover. Install the voltage regulator/brush holder assembly, tighten the bolts securely, and then push down on the plastic cover to release the brushes. Finally, install the cover over the end frame and tighten the bolts securely.
