1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E Throttle Cable Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and refit the Throttle Cable in the Diesel fuel injuection systems on 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E?
A: On completion, adjust the operation of the cable as described. Before attempting adjustment, check that the route taken by the cable avoids kinking, crushing, or tight bends. Operate the throttle pedal through its full stroke and check that no resistance can be felt. With the throttle linkage in the idle position, ensure that the spring plate at the end of the throttle cable is resting lightly against the compression spring, without tension. If not, remove the trim panel above the driver's footwell to expose the hole in the bulkhead where the throttle cable passes from the footwell into the engine compartment, then turn the adjuster at the bulkhead until the correct conditions are met. With the relay lever in the idle position, the roller pivot should rest against the end of the slotted section of the fulcrum lever; adjust the length of the connecting rod if necessary. Pull the throttle control lever through its full travel and check that the fuel injection pump control lever rests against the full load stop, ensuring that the relay lever pivot stops approximately 1 mm short of the end of the slotted section of the fulcrum lever. If not, slacken the locknut at the ball socket on the end of the connecting rod and reposition the socket within the relay lever slotted section to achieve the correct travel, then tighten the locknut upon completion. For models with automatic transmission, adjust the operation of the control pressure cable. Have an assistant press the throttle pedal to the end of its travel from inside the vehicle, checking that the fuel injection pump control lever rests against the full load stop; if necessary, turn the adjustment nut at the throttle guide bracket to achieve the correct travel. Finally, repeat the operation to ensure proper adjustment.
