  Q: How to remove and install the cylinder head in the Four-cylinder engines on Mercedes-Benz C280?

  When eliminating the cylinder head, the first one is breaking the cable with the negative corresponding to the battery, the second one is to remove the engine cover where possible. Empty the cooling system and lose the water inlet at the hub of the cylinder head front cover. Very carefully remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold still attached and peel it away if needed, and place the cylinder head on the wood blocks. Wipe off altogether the external parts of the cylinder head and inspect them thoroughly before attending to them. To install, it is important that the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block are clean using a plastic brake cleaner and abrasive pad as well as stuffing the cylinders with clean rags to keep off debris. Get a tap to chase the threads in the head bolt holes and clean them out with compressed air. Also inspect each cylinder head bolt and remove any that are stretching past the maximum length, even though it is recommended to replace all the head bolts. Fit the components that have been unscrewed out of the head, open the new head cylinder gasket cover and place the head on the dowel pins without touching the gasket. Clean engine oil on the threads and below the bolt heads then install the bolts in the correct positions and tighten in that order to the required torque. Install and tighten the cylinder head-to-timing chain cover bolts then mount the cam followers or lash adjusters and rocker arms, and the camshafts. The rest of the installation process is simply the opposite of this process of removal, so when relocating a general water outlet, before having it back in place, it is important to install a new O-ring. Lastly, add cooling fluid and replace the oil filter and engine oil and power up the engine and look at any oil and coolant leakage.
