To access the lock cylinder inserting the ignition key and turning the switch to position I the trim panel around the lock cylinder should be pried off with a small screwdriver, and then the ignition key inserted to unlock the cylinder. Select the appropriate length of 2.0 mm diameter wire, fold it into the shape of a U, where the two ends of the U are chamfered by filing 70 degrees to inward. Pop the releasing wire through the holes on either side of the lock barrel and push the lock cylinder detents together, then roll the lock barrel over with the ignition key turned to position on the lock cylinder mark I and prod the assembly out of its housing. Once releasing wire and ignition key have been taken out, pull the lock barrel out of sleeve. To refit, the lock barrel must be inserted into the steering lock body with the raised section fitting into the groove, sliding the sleeve over the lock barrel with the cutout facing the steering column and pushing the lock barrel and cover into place completely into the steering lock body with the end of the ignition key pointing to the mark on the cover. Test the operation of the lock and the lock barrel and then refit the trim panel. Removal of the entire switch can be performed by disconnecting battery negative terminal, followed by removal of the lock cylinder described above without rotating the switch out of position "I". Discard driver side lower facia panel and disconnect wiring connector(s) with switch assembly being carefully routed and installed. In diesel versions, align marks between vacuum hoses and switch to be made before vacuum hose removal, and provide selection mechanism interlock cable in transmission model unscrewed in the lock assembly. Remove the switch clamp bolt, depress the detent pin and lift the switch assembly off the column. Removal is the opposite of refitting, making sure that the switch has not been taken out, the detent pin must always stay in place, the clamp bolt is tightened fully, the wiring relays and cables correctly hooked and un-hooked, the vacuum hoses in diesel models properly hooked. Install the lock cylinder prior to mounting the facia panel and test it. To handle the ignition/starter Wiring block one must install the switch assembly and then a simple removal of the screws holding the wiring block at the back of the switch will allow the removal of the block. To refit, be sure that the locating lug on the wiring block properly fits into the slot in the switch body, re-fit the retaining screws securely, and then re-fit the switch assembly.
