Mercedes-Benz Steering Knuckle

The Mercedes-Benz Steering Knuckle is the powerful yet agile pivot that allows each front wheel to turn effortlessly while also braced to bear the load of the suspension, making every drive stable and responsive. Known for combining luxury and technology, Mercedes-Benz has come a long way since 1926, from being the one who invented gasoline cars to providing electric models that can harvest energy from braking and communicate via the voice system, smart MBUX. The company's MB.OS platform was unveiled in 2023 to bring together driver assistance, battery control, artificial intelligence, and infotainment for a unified experience, and the company's cars feature sleek styling with software that learns the driver's habits, all aimed at keeping journeys safe, connected, and enjoyable. Inside that vehicle lineup, the Steering Knuckle connects the hub, tie rod, and ball joints to allow the wheel to move up over bumps without wandering and stay on course through tight corners. Forged for strength but formed to save weight, it carries the spindle or bolt-on hub that allows the tire to spin on low-friction bearings, and tapered bores hold ball joints that reduce drag compared with the older kingpin designs. It also isolates impact forces so that other parts last longer, and because its geometry remains constant across models, it delivers uniform handling qualities throughout the range, silently underpinning the brand's reputation for confident control.

Genuine parts are built to last. These components go through tough factory testing, so you can trust they will hold up over time. At MBPartsGiant.com, finding Mercedes-Benz Steering Knuckle is quick and simple. We keep a massive inventory in stock with low prices that are hard to beat. Just order online to get a real manufacturer's warranty with every single part. Returns won't be a headache either, thanks to our no-hassle policy. If you are in a rush, we provide expedited shipping to get your vehicle back on the road. Don't wait. Finish your repairs today and keep your Mercedes-Benz running like new. Explore the catalog now.

Mercedes-Benz Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and refit the steering knuckle and associated components on Mercedes-Benz 190E?

New shock absorber to steering knuckle lower bolts and upper bolt nut, a steering rod balljoint nut, and a lower arm balljoint clamp bolt nut will be required on refitting. Firmly apply the parking brake, jack up the front of the vehicle, and support it on axle stands before removing the relevant front roadwheel. If the steering knuckle is to be renewed, remove the hub assembly. For refitting the steering knuckle assembly, slacken and remove the two bolts securing the brake caliper mounting bracket to the knuckle, then slide the caliper assembly off the disc, discarding the caliper bolts and using new ones on refitting. Tie the caliper to the front suspension coil spring to avoid strain on the hydraulic brake hose, and remove the wheel sensor on models with ABS. Slacken and remove the nut securing the steering rod balljoint to the steering knuckle, then release the balljoint tapered shank using a universal balljoint separator. On models equipped with ASD, if work is on the right-hand side, undo the retaining bolts and remove the wheel acceleration sensor, taking care not to drop or knock the sensitive ASD sensor. Support the lower arm while the steering knuckle is removed by positioning a jack and block of wood underneath or using a suitable spring compressor. Slacken and remove the two lower bolts securing the strut to the shock absorber, then slacken and remove the nut and washer to withdraw the upper bolt securing the shock absorber to the steering knuckle. Free the steering knuckle from the shock absorber, then slacken and remove the lower arm balljoint clamp bolt and nut. Free the steering knuckle from the lower arm balljoint and remove it from the vehicle, inspecting for signs of wear or damage and renewing as necessary. Clean the threads of the steering knuckle lower bolt holes before engaging the knuckle with the lower arm balljoint stud, inserting the clamp bolt, fitting the new nut, and tightening it to the specified torque while filling the steering knuckle clamp split with sealant to prevent corrosion. Locate the knuckle correctly with the shock absorber, ensuring the knuckle peg is in the hole, then insert the steering knuckle upper retaining bolt and washers, fitting the new nut. Fit the two new lower bolts securing the shock absorber to the knuckle, push down on the steering knuckle axle to contact the shock absorber, hold the knuckle in position, and tighten the upper bolt nut and both lower bolts to the specified torque. Remove the jack or spring compressor and connect the steering rod balljoint to the knuckle, fitting a new nut and tightening it to the specified torque. Fit the hub assembly, remove all traces of locking compound if the hub was not disturbed, and slide the caliper into position over the disc, ensuring the pads pass either side of the disc. Fit the new mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified torque, then refit the ASD sensor to the hub if necessary, securely tightening its retaining bolts. Finally, refit the roadwheel, lower the vehicle to the ground, and tighten the wheel bolts to the specified torque.
  • Q: How to properly remove and replace the steering knuckle and related components on Mercedes-Benz C230?
    A:
Weaken the wheel bolts, have the front of the vehicle up in the air, and place it safely on jackstands and then take the wheel off, making sure you have it resting on a frame rather than a part of the suspension. Electroporation of brake wear sensor(s), brake disc and wheel speed sensor. In rear wheel drive cars, take the hub out of the steering knuckle and in 4MATIC (AWD) cars take the driveaxle hub nut out of the axle shaft and push the axle shaft through the hub up to the point of being loose; sometimes the hub nut can be difficult to remove, in which case place the hub nut on the shaft until it meets the end and then use a mallet to work the hub nut loose, or a puller may be needed. Remove the tie-rod end at the steering knuckle and separate the strut assembly with the steering knuckle, (and in rear wheel drive models, separate the suspension struts with the steering knuckle, and 4MATIC (AWD) models, separate the lower control arm and the steering knuckle as well). Check for cracks around the steering knuckle especially around the steering arm and spindle and also check the balljoint stud holes (grocoves) are not long or cracked and replace the steering knuckle as necessary. The brake dust shield(s) can be removed and replaced, but that requires work, whereas removal is the converse of installation and a tightening of all suspension fasteners to the recommended torque should all work. Lastly, screw in the wheel bolts up to the correct torque and check the front end position and correct it accordingly.
