Mercedes-Benz Valve Lifter

Mercedes-Benz Valve Lifter quietly eliminates slack inside the valvetrain so that every engine breathes smoothly, reducing friction and cancelling out the ticking noises that ruin a refined ride. Across the broader lineup, Mercedes-Benz combines German heritage with daring technology, such as MBUX voice control, energy recuperating hybrids and the versatile MB.OS software which integrates batteries, driver assistance and infotainment in real time, all in sleek styling that turns heads on city streets and highways alike. Drivers enjoy a confident driving experience, smart navigation that learns their habits and cabins that are both luxurious and intuitive, proofing that the brand never stops pushing innovation forward. Back under the hood, the Valve Lifter highlights why this small component matters so much; its oil fed piston action automatically fills the gap between cam and valve, holding timing tight even as parts expand with heat, which means steady idle, preserved cam lobes, and longer overall engine life. Because it self adjusts, owners do not need to tinker with feeler gauges or frequent tune ups; they simply keep clean oil flowing and the mechanism takes care of the rest, a universal advantage whether the car is a compact sedan, a roomy SUV, or a high performance coupe. This combination of futuristic electronics within the cabin and smart mechanical solutions within the engine reflects how the brand carries out a balance between cutting edge digital ideas and proven engineering physics.

Mercedes-Benz Valve Lifter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What is the general information regarding the camshaft and valve lifter in the Six-cylinder petrol engine on Mercedes-Benz 190E?
    A:
The rockeraear machined is part of the camshaft carrying plates, and both rockerarms are consisted of, and clamped to, rockerarms attached to distinct rocker shafts that snap into place on the bearing caps. There is one exhaust and one inlet rocker arm on a bearing cap assembly and hydraulic valve lifters mounted on the rocker arms are supplied with oil by drillings on the rocker arms. The air cleaner assembly and camshaft sprocket should be removed, securing bolts should then be unscrewed to pull off the oil spray pipe located in the camshaft bearing caps. Rocker arm identification marks and bearing caps are to be inspected, and where missing, appropriate marks obtained. The camshaft bearing capbolts can be unscrewed in a diagonal sequence gradually, and then the camshaft bearing cap/rocker assemblies are able to be lifted. The valve lifter contact pads should be taken off in sequence, and the camshaft is now lifted out of the cylinder head. When dismantling, the camshaft bearings and lobes must be checked as to their condition, and, where needed, at the same time renew the camshaft and all the rocker arms. By drawing out the short rocker shafts the rocker arms can be taken out and the shafts must be marked to be reassembled. The mandrel may be used to remove the valve lifters, and spacer washers must also be stored in order. It is possible to check the functioning of the valve lifters by pouring the oil into them and observing whether it performs correctly or not, it case the whole mechanism and constructions should be replaced. There are different thicknesses of spacer washers to ensure appropriate clearance, and when overextended wear takes place, another thickness could be needed. Fitting the valve lifters with assembled rocker arms is also recommendable so that as little time as possible get wasted in assembling the valve lifters, wasting oil as well. All value lifters should be filled with oil and then the spacer washer and a life lifter should be inserted into the rocks arm housing. When refitting, the endfloat control thrustwasher must be set correctly, and the camshaft then lubricated and fitted into position with the TDC pin or hole facing upward. The individual valve lifter contact pads are to be remounted on existing valve stems, and the bearing caps mounted on the camshaft faces to be remounted in their original locations and, then, tightened in a diagonal fashion to the recommended torque. The oil spray access pipe must be examined to show any damage is present, and both the crankshaft and camshaft timing marks must be checked before re-connecting the camshaft sprocket and air cleaner assembly.
  • Q: How to remove and inspect rocker arms and valve lifters on Mercedes-Benz C230?
    A:
Before beginning this procedure, ensure the transmission is in Park or Neutral, apply the parking brake, and block the rear wheels. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the camshafts. For 2002 models with the type 111 engine, which uses bucket-type hydraulic cam followers actuated directly by the cam lobes, push down on each follower with a wooden dowel to check its action; if any compresses more easily, replace all followers as a set, taking care not to push the valve off its seat. Use a suction cup tool to remove the cam followers from the cylinder head, checking for wear on the friction surfaces, and store them upright in clean engine oil to prevent bleeding down. Inspect each cam follower for scoring or wear, and if one is bad, replace all as a set. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring lubrication with clean engine oil before installation. For 2003 through 2005 models with the type 271 engine, which uses rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters, label and store the rocker arms and lash adjusters separately for reinstallation. Push on the lash adjuster end of each rocker arm; if any compresses easily, replace all lash adjusters as a set, avoiding excessive force. Remove each rocker arm, which will bring the hydraulic lash adjuster out with it, and push off the retaining clip to separate the lash adjuster from the rocker arm, storing them in clean engine oil. Check the lash adjusters for wear and ensure they move freely without excessive play; if one is worn, replace all as a set. Inspect each rocker arm for wear, cracks, and damage, ensuring the rollers turn freely. Installation is the reverse of removal, with lubrication of the lash adjusters and rocker arm surfaces with clean engine oil before installation.
