New lower pivot bolt nuts, new shock absorber lower mounting bolt nut(s), and an anti-roll bar connecting link bolt nut will be required on refitting. Begin by chocking the front wheels, applying the parking brake, jacking up the rear of the vehicle, and supporting it on axle stands before removing the appropriate roadwheel. Undo the retaining screws or clips to remove the protective cover from the base of the lower arm. Fit a spring compressor to the coil spring and compress it to relieve tension from its upper and lower seats. Slacken and remove the nut and bolt securing the anti-roll bar connecting link to the lower arm, then position a jack beneath the lower arm and raise it until it supports the weight. Slacken and remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt nut(s) and withdraw the bolt(s) and washers. Unscrew the nut from the lower arm outer pivot bolt and withdraw the bolt, carefully lowering the arm slightly to withdraw the coil spring and spring seat. Unscrew the nut, withdraw the inner pivot bolt and washers, and remove the lower arm from underneath the vehicle. Thoroughly clean the lower arm and the area around the arm mountings, checking for cracks, distortion, or signs of wear, particularly in the mounting bushes. If either bush requires renewal, take the lower arm to a Mercedes-Benz dealer or suitably equipped garage for pressing out and installing new ones. Offer up the lower arm, insert the inner pivot bolt and washers, and fit the new nut, tightening it lightly. Ensure the lower arm spring seat is clean, fit the upper spring seat to the coil spring, and manoeuvre the spring into position, locating the lower end correctly against the stop on the lower arm seat. Align the upper spring seat with the body mounting and carefully raise the lower arm while aligning it with the hub carrier, anti-roll bar link, and shock absorber. Check that the coil spring is correctly located, then insert the lower arm outer pivot bolt and fit the new retaining nut, tightening it lightly. Align the lower end of the shock absorber with the arm and insert the mounting bolt(s), fitting a new nut(s) and tightening it lightly. Insert the anti-roll bar connecting link bolt, fit the new retaining nut, and tighten lightly. Refit the rear roadwheel, lower the vehicle to the ground, and tighten the wheel bolts to the specified torque. With the vehicle resting on its wheels, rock it to settle all disturbed components in position, then tighten the lower arm pivot bolts, shock absorber lower mounting bolts(s), and the anti-roll bar connecting link bolt to their specified torque settings, finally refitting the protective cover to the lower arm and securely tightening its retaining screws.
