Unhook the negative cable at the battery and position it out of the way to avoid inadvertent contact with the negative terminal, which would enable re-entry of power into the electrical system of the vehicle. Alignment: Turn the front wheels parallel then pour out all the fluid in the power steering pump reservoir and disconnect and fit the fluid hoses. Lift the front of the car and mount jackstands. Unscrew the coupling clamp bolt holes with an appropriate Allen wrench and slide the coupling off of the steering gear. Unscrew cotter pins and nuts attaching the drag link and track rod end to the steering gear Pitman arm, use a separator tool to remove the connection between the link and the arm. Once you marked the Pitman arm against the sector shaft, pull off the self-locking nut then detach with a puller the arm of the steering gear. Grab the heavy steering gear and loosen the mounting bolts available in the wheel well, then lift the steering gear out of the car. To install, repeat the removal steps in reverse being careful that all the nuts and bolts are securely tightened at the recommended torque and that the
Steering Wheel and gear are in the proper position before putting the coupling in place. Lastly, ensure the contact of the Pitman arm or idler arm with the stop of the crossmember when the track rod is in the locked screw clamp position; otherwise, the track rod length checks can be performed by a dealer or other equipped shop.
